My Work.
STATEMENT:
What is the purpose of art? Any person in the world can draw something on any medium at any given location, people in this world may be rich, poor, or even disabled, but they all have the ability and the rights to create a paint. My inspiration isn’t from any famous artists or work, but instead is from my diverse personal experience and background. ISB the 8th school that I’ve been to, I’ve experienced many different things and stayed in various community previously, and art is one of the ways to record these events and places. I’ve been through lots of things that are unpredictable and can’t be controlled, which shaped my personality to the point of calm and able to adapt to everything. This time, I named the theme of my exhibition “A Giddy Society”. All of my artworks have the intention of express the situations/problems of our society (old and modern), which also gives the audience feeling of relax and sometimes hesitation since it’s abstraction; it also leads to let the audience have their own idea of each of my artwork, every person in this world all has different experiences, therefore the different audience will have their own idea when looking at the artworks. I often change my medium when doing art so that I can express different ideas more profoundly. I have experienced using daily essential materials to make a piece of artwork, for example, plastic wrap, cotton, transparency paper, plastic material, and some oil colors. This again identified my idea of equality (the opportunity of making art) and reflects to my theme “A Giddy Society”. In my artwork, all the color is used in a purpose of creating strong contrast. By making the main objects more pop out, I switched between warm and cool color to achieve this goal and let my artwork be more “visually shocking” to the audience. All of the artwork creates a feeling of relaxation to the audience, with calmness and stillness, it makes the audience “sink” into my artworks; I want the audiences standing in front of my artworks does not only look at the art work but get involve with the artwork (connect with their personal experience). Art does not have a specific definition, instead, people creates their own definition for their perspective of art. Therefore, all of my artwork can be connected through imagination, with different scene of experiences of a person’s life. 1) Top Left In this artwork, it shows a gentleman with high social reputation smoking a cigarette at a public space, we can tell it’s a public space by looking at the smoking-free sign in the background. By sticking newspaper fragments on the back, it shows the immemorial time. I used visible plastic material as the board for this artwork because I think it can put at anywhere, the background is easy and quick to change, which is the society. I want to express the feeling of chaos of an overwhelmed mind when coming to the point of everything complex is around us. The box in the painting has many possible ways to explain, which the inside could be a person is trapped in there or it could be a present. By scratch the canvas on the right side, it shows a deeper meaning of 3-dimentional when visualizing the artwork. Title: “Ways in The Darkness” Oil on Canvas 90 x 70 x 2 (W x H x D cm) 2019 3)Bottom Left This artwork shows two people are in a club, the color is not completely mixed in this artwork to show the sense of depth within the art. The people in the artwork shows they have higher social standings by looking at their outfits and the accessories that they are enjoying. It also shows the part of corruption when looking at the money is sticking out of the person’s pocket. Title: “Life for The Upper Class” Mixed Media 60 x 90 x 2 (W x H x D cm) 2019 4)Bottom Right I drew this landscape because it reminds me of a place I visited back in California, the place barely has any visitor, which is peaceful and calmful. The boat in the middle is the focal point of this painting, and the ocean in the background is the place where every boat should belong; but the fact of the boat has been entangled, so it also reflects the limited potential when being controlled by external pressure even though there are possibilities and the outlet will be beautiful.
